The U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Department and the U.S. Soccer New York City Development Council invite coaches in the NYC metro area to apply for need-based scholarship funding to support you in your next USSF coaching course.

(1) Scholarship funding is available for qualified candidates to participate in the National B, C, or D License course. Review the qualifications for each course here: National B, National C, and National D.

(2) To apply, coaches must reside or coach for a club in one of the ZIP codes indicated here. This scholarship opportunity is a pilot coaching education program currently specific to the NYC metro area, made possible through the generous support of the NYC Development Council and local donors.



Coaching candidates can receive the following financial aid:

*B License candidates must also apply and be selected as part of the regular B License course application process. The Fall 2019 B License application window is Thursday, September 19 - Sunday, October 6.

For courses where the registration fee exceeds the scholarship award, candidates are responsible for paying the remaining fee to participate in the course. Should the scholarship award exceed the cost of the course, candidates will be able to participate in the course cost-free.



Applications for Fall 2019 will be accepted at any time during the following application period:

  • Application portal opens -- Thursday, September 5 at 8:00AM EDT

  • Application portal closes -- Sunday, September 22 at 11:59PM EDT

The U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Department will review all applications, and the NYC Development Council will support in the final selection of scholarship recipients based on the information provided. In addition to need, candidates will be evaluated on the quality of their personal statement and letter of recommendation.

Scholarship recipients will be notified in late October. The scholarship will be automatically applied as a “discount” on the payment page when the coaching candidate registers for his or her next course through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center (USSLC).

Recipients must participate in their next course within 12 months of receiving notification of their award. Scholarship funds unused after one year of availability will be released back to U.S. Soccer to support coaching education programming.



To apply, you will need to:

  • Complete a brief online form, including personal contact details, club information, and coaching history.

  • Provide a personal statement indicating why you should be selected to receive this scholarship award. Personal statements should be no more than 250 words and may be provided in the applicant’s preferred language, including Spanish. We strongly encourage applicants to provide a meaningful personal statement as part of the application.

  • Attach a letter of recommendation from club leadership or a coaching colleague. The letter of recommendation must be on official club letterhead.


To apply for the scholarship, log into your account on the U.S Soccer Learning Center. Eligible coaches will receive a notification with the application link. As eligibility is based on your ZIP code, please make sure your address in the USSLC is up-to-date to ensure the notification displays in your account.
